"Wading neck deep in a swamp, your revolver is neither use nor ornament until you have had time to clean it" Mary H. Kingsley (1897)

Urbi et Orbi

The Buddhist monks in Rumtek are not an enclosed community.

They seem to be in constant communication with the outside world.

Are any orders enclosed? I am somewhat surprised that they seem to have mobile phones.

    • Probably not. But I think in the past many were effectively enclosed due to their physical isolation.
Mobile phones have changed all that. It’s almost impossible to separate men in India from their mobiles – even Buddhist monks!
