The pungent tang of latex, combined with dramatic contrasts of light and shade, made our visit strangely powerful.

Is that the finished product or are there further processes before sale?

    • That’s it, as far as the factory is concerned!

They produce three grades of rubber: the top quality golden-white sheets of latex, which are sold to medical supplies manufacturers; a yellow, medium grade, which mainly goes to Nike for trainers; and the course orange stuff, which is put to some industrial use..

Never having investigated the rubber industry, I now feel enlightened. Thank you. It looks almost lace-like as it hangs there.

    • This was my first experience of the industry. We were spending a long weekend relaxing in the rubber plantation bungalow and the owners offered us the tour. It was fascinating and surprisingly beautiful.
