  1. I know that the monastery is on the North Island, but with the palm trees, I’m wondering how tropical it is there at the Kapua monastery. Do they have seasons (like a real winter)?

    • Although those distinctive tree silhouettes look like palms they are, I believe, a native New Zealand species, quite unlike anything I have seen in the tropics.
      The winters – even on North Island – can be very cold, and snow is far from rare!

    • Yes, I find their skies amazing too… which is odd. Normally I’m only so aware of the sky when the scenery is particularly flat, or mountainous!
